These past two weeks have been especially crafty for me. A month ago, I decided to go to Michael’s and get supplies for creating my own stitch markers for knitting. I came home with an assortment of items and have been working on making some very nice stitch markers. Although I just can’t get the hang of twisting wire the way they need to go and need my husband to do that part, they were really very easy to make. Maybe there’s not much to them, but it’s nice to dress up your unfinished knitted pieces while they’re still works in progress — functional jewelry for your knitting. So they have a purpose.
In my mind, I dream of owning my own yarn shop, and maybe have an alpaca/sheep farm too at some point in my life. So I decided to put my graphic design skills to good use and make a stitch marker card to keep each set together. (Who knows… maybe I’ll get so good at making these things that I’ll be able to turn a profit on them someday…) With one of my photos in the background and some fancy text on a piece of heavy card stock, and two punched holes with a piece of yarn woven through to hold the stitch markers that is tied in back, it almost looks professional. For now though, it’s just for fun.
Knitting update: I went through a knitting slump for a few weeks and had no idea what to knit, even though I had a couple patterns chosen for the Sticks for Chicks-along I’m supposed to be participating in at getstitchy.com. So I picked up my crochet hooks and found a couple things I could do with them instead. One of the things I completed was a granny-style skull cap, but I can’t post the picture yet because it’s a gift for someone and they haven’t received it yet. That project took all of three hours one afternoon.
Then yesterday, I started to make a crocheted cotton market bag, mostly to see if I could figure out the pattern, but as it progressed, I decided I really liked how it was going, and it is so easy for me. I’m about 1/3 done, and if it turns out well, I may keep this one as a beach toy tote and make another! So I’m seriously considering a crocheted Secret Pal gift in the near future since I seem to be so much better at crocheting than knitting! (If my spoilee has figured out who is spoiling her and is reading this… don’t get excited! You still don’t know what I’m going to make, now, do ya?!)
And yes, I know… I need to add another day to the “Our Trip to Disney” page. There are not enough hours in the day. The next day’s addition has been started in Word however, although I won’t add it to our blog until it’s done. Thanks for being patient…
