Steamed…

… and cooling off to room temperature. Remember this yarn I purchased a while ago? The superwash wool sock yarn in that image turned into the first skein of yarn I’ve handpainted with acid dyes. Here it is wrapped up and cooling off after its steam bath:

So far, handpainting this skein of yarn with acid dyes took half the time it took me to handpaint with Kool-Aid. And the kitchen is free from all those fruity fumes, too — big plus! I’ve found that the red in acid dyes takes to the yarn so well, as soon as you squirt the dye on, the yarn immediately gets permeated all the way through and is almost oversaturated. I said almost… I happen to love bold, vibrant colors so a little extra saturation is a big plus!

After it cooled enough, I unwrapped the yarn to see the results. What does it remind you of?
